Let’s Paint Penzance!
This project was inspired originally by a visit to Portugal, in a town called Carvoeiro there are many beautifully painted electricity boxes outside the shops, a project called Carvoeiro Boxes. They are so well executed and colourful, they make you want to wander all around the town to find them all. So Pop Up Penzance decided that Penzance should have a similar street art project. We gathered funding from FEAST Cornwall, Penzance Town Council, Penzance & District Tourism Association, Councillor Cornelius Olivier Community Chest, Cultivator, Angie Butler and Pop Up Pz made up the rest, to bring a similar project to Penzance. We got permission for several sites in the town centre, appointed 3 local artists, Jedna Hall, Ruthie Weaver, Julia Kerrison, and working through Cultivator with Cornwall College, we enlisted a student artist, Ronni McEntee. Our criteria was quality, subjects with a relevance to Penzance, great colour and some humour. We think that our little electric boxes look amazing! This project is about colouring up the streets, giving very public work to local artists, and bringing joy to the public, we would love for it to continue and bring this little bit of magic to more areas of the town. Our newest work of art is by artist Kleiner Shames, painted Feb 2019 by a kind donation from an anonymous member of the public!
We are looking for sponsorship, or donations to paint more of Penzance, if you would like to get involved please get in touch. info@popuppenzance.co.uk, facebook page PUPzpaintpz.
